Unemployment rises to 4.07%

Taiwan’s unemployment rate rose by 0.4 percentage points to 4.07% in May, compared with the same month in 2019. According to the Manpower Survey Results in May 2020 published by the Directorate General of Budget Accounting and Statistics, the number of unemployed persons was 486,000 in May, representing an increase of 5,000 (+1.01%) from the previous month and by 49,000 (+11.20%) from May 2019. Meanwhile the labour force participation rate was 59.06% in May, the same level as the previous month but down by 0.01 percentage point from May 2019.
