Unemployment rate ticks up to 3.48%
Taiwan's unemployment rate in August rose slightly from a month earlier to stand 3.48%. According to the Directorate General of Budget Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS), the increase is part of a typical seasonal trend seen between June and August each year due to the influx of new graduates seeking employment.
August's unemployment rate rose by 0.03 percentage points from July, marking the third consecutive monthly increase. After seasonal adjustments, the unemployment rate stood at 3.36% in August, up by 0.02 percentage points from a month earlier.
The government says despite the rise in August's unemployment rate, it was still the lowest for the month since 2000 and it's describing the slight growth in unemployment after seasonal adjustments in August as "acceptable" and insisting the job market remains stable.
