The European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee has adopted a report identifying the security challenges facing the body in the Indo-Pacific.

The report recognizes Taiwan as a key partner and democratic ally in the region.

According to a draft of the report, China's military build-up and its activities in the East and South China seas, including its "deliberate and repetitive violations of Taiwan's air defense zone," have led to rising tensions in the region.

It stressed that because security dynamics in the Indo-Pacific directly impact the E-U's strategic interests the union should work closely in the region with other liberal democracies and historical allies.

It goes on to say that the E-U affirms that it "considers Taiwan as a key partner and democratic ally in the Indo-Pacific" and that it strongly supports Taiwan's "democratic path."
