The Ministry of Labor (MOL) says employer-held migrant worker employment permits set to expire from 1 April to 30 June will be automatically extended for an additional three months.

The automatic extensions are a result of continued border controls.

The MOL says the move will benefit about 80,000 employers, who won't need to file new applications to bring in foreign workers.

It also means an employer with an employment permit that expires on 25 May will have the deadline automatically moved to 25 August.

Based on current regulations, employers looking to recruit migrant workers from abroad must apply to the ministry for a six-month permit.

Foreign workers are then required to arrive in the country within that period.
