A team comprising 17 research groups has been formed to accelerate thedevelopment of quantum computing here in Taiwan.

According to the Cabinet's Board of Science and Technology, the team consists of 72 experts and 24 enterprises and has been established with the aim of boosting the research and development of quantum elements, computers, and communications systems.

Minister of Science Wu Zheng-chong has been appointed deputy convener of the board and he says the group will also be tasked with establishing an upstream-downstream research and development model.

Wu says the team currently includes his ministry, Academia Sinica, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, while the Financial Supervisory Commission and the National Development Council are expected to join soon.

Establishment of the Board of Science and Technology comes after the ministry of science announced plans in December of last year to invest NT$8 billion over five years to build a platform for the research and development of quantum technologies.
