New foreigner service hotline
The National Immigration Agency (NIA) has a launched a new service hotline to assist foreign nationals living in Taiwan.
Taiwan's Interior Minister Hsu Kuo-yung says the new number replaces an older, more difficult number to remember to ensure foreign residents always know who to call when they have a question while in Taiwan.
The new service hotline is 1990, and has operators who can speak in seven languages, including Mandarin, English, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, and Cambodian.
The hotline can connect foreign residents with government offices to assist with any problem, and can conduct three-way conversations, offering assitance to translate when necessary.
The hotline operates 24-hours a day, but with Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian and Cambodian service only available currently during office hours.
