89 hospitals to treat "long Covid"
Public health officials say 89 hospitals across the island are setting up special clinics to treat people who might be suffering from long Covid.
The National Health Insurance Administration's Medical Affairs Division established the clinics after patients who recovered from Covid complained of suffering from the syndrome.
These special clinics are meant to incorporate expertise from across a wide range of medical specialties to treat different symptoms.
The Ministry of Health says "long Covid" symptoms include hair loss, rashes, shortness of breath, lung tissue damage, heart palpitations, chest pains, heart muscles inflammation, as well as severe complications of pre-existing diabetes.
Other effects linked to "long Covid" include changes in menstrual cycles, blood clots, and acute kidney injury.
The special clinics are also offering psychological support to people suffering from "long Covid."
