The health minister has announced that the 20,000 Covid treatment courses that Taiwan ordered from the US pharmaceutical company Pfizer will soon arrive.

Chen Shih-Chung says Taiwan's Food and Drug Administration has granted Emergency Use Authorization for Paxlovid, an oral pill that US President Joe Biden described as a "game changer" in the fight against coronavirus.

He says the drug "will definitely be here" before the Lunar New Year holiday instead of March as originally scheduled.

Meanwhile the Central Epidemic Command Center says starting tomorrow, people wishing to enter entertainment venues like bars, dancing halls, hostess lounges and night clubs must present proof of having received a second Covid vaccine shot for 14 days.

All workers at those places have to be fully vaccinated as well.
