Taiwan's 2021 trade hits record high

Taiwan’s total trade value measured in US dollars reached a record high level in 2021, according to a report by the Ministry of Finance (MOF). According to the report, total trade climbed to a record high level of US$827.6 billion in 2021, up 31.1% from the previous year on the back of exports of US$446.45 billion, up 29.4% year-on-year and a 33.2% rise in imports to US$381.17 billion. For the full year Taiwan recorded a trade surplus of US$65.28 billion in 2021, up 10.7% from a year earlier.

 

In 2021, exports of Taiwan-made electronics components rose 26.9% from a year earlier to US$172.01 billion, with semiconductor outbound sales rising 27.1% to US$155.50 billion.

 

Exports of Taiwan information and communications gadgets, as well as audio and video devices, also showed strong growth, climbing 24.8% from 2020 to US$61.35 billion, according to the MOF.
