Taipei health officials are helping six city hospitals set up specialty clinics to deal with the after-effects of Covid-19.

The health bureau says some 10% of Covid-19 patients continue to suffer long-term effects three months after recovering from the initial infection.

These long-term symptoms can include difficulty breathing, insomnia, anxiety, and depression.

Individual hospitals say they are seeing even higher rates of long-term effects in Covid-19 patients, with Taipei City Hospital saying up to 30% experience anxiety or depression, while National Taiwan University Hospital say 15% require long-term treatment.

Hospital officials say as Covid-19 is a new disease, medical authorities around the world are still studying how long these effects may last.
