The government is poised to invest NT$2 billion in a cooperative urban renewal project located in Taipei's Nangang District.

The National Housing and Urban Regeneration Center says it's a milestone in that the government is working together with a private company, Taipei-based China Real Estate Management for the two buildings.

The 160 apartment units in the 11-floor building will be used as social housing, while part of the other 14-floor one will be sold to the original property owners.

The NHURC says construction is expected to start in 2023 and finish in 2027.

There's also an international element to it as the two buildings are designed by Japanese architect Ito Toyo.

Deputy Interior Minister Hua Jing-qun says the pace of urban renewal has quickened this year and will be even faster starting 2022.
