The Ministry of Education says non-resident international students will be banned from entering Taiwan from 15 December until 11 February.

The temporary restrictions are being introduced due to concerns over the availability of rooms at quarantine facilities over the Lunar New Year period due to large number of overseas Taiwanese expected to return for the holiday.

The ban only applies to students who do not already have an Alien Residency Certificate.

According to the education ministry, students without a valid ARC wishing to enter Taiwan after 15 December must submit an application through their school that outlines the reasons for the late entry, as well as details of quarantine plans.

All such applications will be passed on to the Central Epidemic Command Center for review.
