MOST to be restructured
The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) is expected to be changed back to the National Science Council (NSC) next year.
MOST Minister Wu Zheng-zhong says as long as the Legislative Yuan passes the amendments to the Organizational Act of the Executive Yuan, the NSC can start operations at any time.
Wu says in the future, a minister without portfolio will double as the NSC chairman so that he can integrate the resources of different government agencies with the aim of advancing the country's research and development in science.
Some lawmakers have suggested that the NSC reinstate the positions of Science and Technology Consultants, positions that were scrapped in 2012 after existing for 32 years.
Experts say those consultants, with two thirds of them from abroad, contributed a great deal to Taiwan's progress in the field.
