Construction for the main building of Taoyuan International Airport's third terminal has finally begun.

The Taoyuan Airport Corporation says the ground work started in 2017 and now South Korea's Samsung C&T as well as Taiwan's RSEA Engineering are putting in the first beam for the main building.

It's expected to be complete in 2025, but operations of its northern boarding corridor could begin a year earlier, while the southern corridor will kick off in 2026.

The main building of the terminal, with a cost of NT$57.2 billion, has a total of seven floors with four above ground and three underground.

When completed, it will be able to serve some 20 million passengers a year, a huge addition to the combined capacity of 25 million for the two existing terminals.
