The Central Epidemic Command Center says it will soon be administering the 1.24 million shots of AstraZeneca vaccine received last week from Japan.

And seniors aged 75 years and old will be included in the categories of eligible people.

Distribution of the vaccines to local governments will begin this Saturday and administration of the shots will start on 15 June.

Health minister Chen Shih-chung says the vaccine doses donated by Japan will also be administered to residents and workers at long-term care facilities and kidney dialysis patients while medical personnel, epidemic prevention workers, and people in other high-risk jobs will also be eligible to receive the shots.

In related news, the Executive Yuan is working on an online vaccination booking system that is expected to begin operations in mid June.

The system will consolidate the booking systems of the various hospitals and clinics that provide vaccines.

This booking function will be incorporated into the National Health Insurance mobile app.

It will also be available at the 1922.gov.tw website, which is currently under development.

The booking system is being prepared for when Taiwan has a large amount of vaccines to administer to the public.
