Spokesperson for the Central Epidemic Command Center Zhuang Ren-xiang said it will announce adjustments to the country's vaccination priority list for long-term care facility workers within the next few days.

The announcement comes after Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je and New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih expressed hopes that care workers could be moved up the vaccination priority list following Covid-19 outbreaks at a care facility in Taipei's Xinyi District that infected 27 and killed seven and a home in Tucheng, where 34 other residents and 11 workers were given rapid screening tests and 25 came back positive.

Zhuang said workers at social welfare institutions and the people they take care of will be moved up the priority list and both institution and in-home care workers will be able to receive innoculations earlier than was previously arranged.

He said once most individuals in categories 1-3 are vaccinated, there can be flexibility on which groups a local government decides to prioritise next.

Zhuang said plans are being ratified.
