The Central Election Commission has officially announced this year's referendums.

Four issues will be put to public vote on 28 August: one concerning the protection of a coastal algal reef, one about pork imports containing traces of the leanness-enhancing drug ractopamine and one about referendum scheduling, while the fourth will ask whether the long-mothballed Fourth Nuclear Power Plant in New Taipei should be activated.

The voting will be held from 08:00-16:00, and votes will be counted on the same day.

The official results will be announced on 3 September.

Public hearings on the issues will be held from 24 July through 21 August islandwide.

The CEC will have the list of people eligible to vote on the referendums finalised by 8 August.

At the same time, Hsinchu City will be holding its first ever local referendum concerning industrial wastewater.
