Central Epidemic Command Center advisor Zhang Shan-chun says seniors who contract the coronavirus should be hospitalised.

The statement comes amid a rise in deaths among senior patients.

The centre will revise its guidelines on arranging accommodation for infected people and standards for discharging patients from hospitals so more beds can be made available.

According to Zhang, seniors and people with chronic diseases are more likely to suffer severe symptoms, and it's preferable for them to be treated in hospitals.

There has recently been an increase in seniors dying from the disease shortly after developing symptoms.

And the current spike in domestically transmitted infections is skewing older, with 38% over 60 years old.
