Health Minister Chen Shih-chung says medical experts have suggested that the Level 3 coronavirus alert be extended due to the current level of transmission rates.
The statement comes after Keelung Mayor Lin You-chang publicly called on the CECC to maintain the Level 3 alert islandwide for another two weeks.
It is currently due to expire this Friday.
The Keelung Mayor says as the sources of many confirmed cases remain unknown and local health authorities have been unable to establish contact with some of the confirmed cases, it would be better that the alert continues.
Lin also says another unresolved problem is that it remains unclear exactly how the disease is being spread outside the Greater Taipei area.
