The Taipei City government has launched a public electric motorcycle share scheme, offering discounted rental rates to holders of MRT monthly passes.

The scooters have been provided by WeMo Scooter, iRent and GoShare at special rates.

And they can be rented using the "EasyWallet" mobile payment service.

Holders of the NT$1,280 MRT monthly pass can choose from three special packages available on the EasyWallet app, which give them a NT$200 credit per month on their EasyCards with each purchase of a scooter rental package.

According to the city government, the programme is aimed at encouraging greater use of green transportation in the capital.

City officials say they expect some 50,000 of the between 280,000 and 320,000 people per month, who usually buy the MRT all-pass tickets, to take advantage of the discount rates for the electric scooter rentals.
