The Presidential Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are expressing their gratitude to the G7 foreign ministers for a statement voicing support for Taiwan's inclusion in the annual World Health Assembly.

A communique was issued by the ministers following their three-day meeting in London, in which they declared support for Taiwan's participation in World Health Organization forums and the World Health Assembly.

The communique went on to say that “the international community should be able to benefit from the experience of all partners, including Taiwan's successful contribution to the tackling of the coronavirus pandemic.”

The G7 ministers also expressed their concerns about “any unilateral actions that could escalate tensions” in the Taiwan Strait.

It was the first time a G7 communique has mentioned Taiwan.

And the foreign ministry says the support is significant, especially as it comes before this year's WHA in Geneva.
