Taiwan’s minister of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) Wang Mei-hua is seeking to play down reports that Taiwan's leading semiconductor manufacturers could build new plants in Europe.

According to Wang, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing has repeatedly stressed that its most advanced technology will continue to be produced mainly in Taiwan and it is not seeking to ship it overseas.

The statement comes after it was reported that the European Union is planning to offer subsidies to chipmakers, including TSMC, to build new plants there amid concerns about chip supply chains.

The European Commissioner responsible for the EU's internal market is reportedly slated to hold discussions with the chief executive of US-based Intel and the president of TSMC's Europe division tomorrow.

However, TSMC has declined to comment about that meeting.
