China Airlines has cancelled its scheduled 17 April flight to Palau under the bilateral "travel bubble" due to low demand. Only two people had been booked on the flight.

According to China Airlines, it has already cut the price of travel bubble flights to Palau as part of promotional efforts and is also encouraging travel agencies to be more innovative in promoting tours there.

However, the carrier says demand remains so low that it has been forced to cancel this Saturday's round-trip flight, while the flight slated for today will depart without any passengers and return to Taiwan with 47 travellers.

The airline is refusing to say whether or not it plans any further cancellations.

The head of the Travel Agent Association says he believes low demand for Palau tours is due to the current epidemic prevention measures in place for people who visit Palau under the travel bubble after they return home.

The Central Epidemic Command Center says it is now reviewing proposals to ease some of those requirements
