TSMC's Executive Chairman has expressed confidence that direct foreign investment can consolidate economic competitiveness.

Mark Liu delivered the sentiment after attending a virtual summit to discuss global computer chip shortages, hosted by the US White House.

He also expressed confidence the planned TSMC chip plant in Arizona, slated to begin production in 2024, would create local employment opportunities, boost income levels, and support innovation and the growth of local companies.

He added that it was one of the biggest direct foreign investment plans in US history.

The Monday summit was attended by executives of a range of global corporations including General Motors, Ford, Intel and Samsung.
