The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) says it plans to file a lawsuit demanding compensation from the truck driver and contractor suspected of being responsible for last Friday's deadly train crash, which resulted in the death of 50 people.
According to Deputy Transport Minister Wang Kwo-tsai, his office will sue Lee Yi-hsiang, the driver of the crane truck that likely caused the crash, and the Dong Hsin Construction Company, which was the contractor working at the site next to where the accident occured.
Wang says the transport ministry has also asked the Hualien District Court to seize all of the assets belonging to both Lee and the construction company as a preemptive measure to prevent them from transferring the assets to other parties.
The deputy transport minister says the lawsuit is based on the Civil Code.
