MOE names university for bilingual education

National Sun Yat-sen University, located in Kaohsiung city, has become the base for cultivating bilingual education teachers.
The Ministry of Education (MOE) announced the plan in joint efforts with the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT).
Education Minister Pan Wen-zhong says the university will offer online information and training courses for bilingual education and help with the MOE's programs to cultivate bilingual teachers.
AIT Director Brent Christensen says the US State Department is sponsoring a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) programme, and this summer and 152 ETAs will arrive in Taiwan to teach English to local students. He says this is quite an achievement as there were only 8 ETAs in Taiwan back in 2003.
