Lawmakers from across party lines are pushing for a new law to fight against climate change.

As other countries set net-zero carbon emission goals for 2050, the lawmakers say Taiwan should follow suit.

The lawmakers say Taiwan could become a model for emissions controls in Asia if it does so.

They say this can be done in a way that both benefits the environment and also protects industries.

20 lawmakers already introduced a climate change action act in the legislature late last year.
