The average number of people employed in the industrial and service sectors in Taiwan fell in 2020 for the first time in 11 years because of the economic disruption caused by the global Covid-19 pandemic, according to Taiwan's statistics bureau.

An average of about eight million people were employed in the industrial and service sectors in 2020, according to the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS).

Meanwhile, the average regular monthly salary in Taiwan was NT$42,498 (US$1,522) in 2020, up 1.47% from the previous year.
