Taiwan’s industrial production increased for the eleventh consecutive month by 9.9% in December and 6.8% for the full year, according to a report by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA).

The strong growth was attributed to demand for electronics products and components, despite the global economic downturn. According to the report, production in the electronic components and electronic goods categories were up by double-digit percentage points for the year, although output at traditional industries mostly declined along with the global economy. Production of electronic components was up by 19.33% for the year, while production of computers, electronics and optical products grew by 11.06% for the year, according to ministry data.
