7% of labourers laid off or had pay cuts in 2020

7% of Taiwan's labourers say they were either laid off or suffered reductions in payments due to the impact of coronavirus last year, according to the Ministry of Labour (MOL).


In general, the Ministry of Labour's survey of the 2020 labourers' employment situation shows that a majority of them, at 71%, were satisfied with their jobs.

Of those who were unhappy about their work environment, 75% cited lack of chances for promotion and 66% attributed it to low pay.

For those who worked overtime, 88% said they were able to receive overtime pay or comp time.

The average overtime work took some 15 hours per month last year according to the survey.
