Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je has postponed the city's Lantern Festival and cancelled the annual Di-Hua Street Lunar New Year market due to the recent rise in coronavirus cases.
According to Ko, the decision was made after carefully considering how to continue disease control efforts without significantly sacrificing normal business activities.
The Taipei Lantern Festival had been scheduled to take place from 26 February through 7 March in the city's Wanhua District.
Ko says the new date for the festival will be decided depending on how the coronavirus outbreak unfolds.
