The Council of Agriculture is downplaying concerns about a looming food shortage.
With a lack of rainfall this year, irrigation in several parts of the country has already been called off for the January planting season.
This has led to concerns about decreased food supplies and increased costs.
Agriculture minister Chen Chi-chung says the government has plenty of food stockpiled, enough for at least eight or nine months. He also says there should be no danger of rising food prices.
