The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) has announced subsidies for electric long-haul buses.

Transport Minister Lin Chia-lung says intercity bus companies can get up to NT$10 million in financial assistance for each electric bus they purchase.

This will go toward paying for the bus itself, and for maintenance for the following 12 years.

Companies will have to meet certain criteria to be eligible for the subsidies, such as having a good reliability rate and having enough domestically-produced vehicles.

The subsidy is part of government efforts to have all long-haul buses be electric by 2030.

Lin says building up the electric vehicle industry could create NT$170 billion in business opportunities for local companies and create 56,000 jobs. He added that his ministry has already earmarked NT$8.5 billion over the next four years, to help push this initiative.
