Lawmakers from the Legislative Internal Affairs Committee are moving to freeze some of the government's budget for the issuance of the new eID cards.

The move comes amid security concerns over the electronic ID cards. And Lawmakers say they could opt to freeze between 10 and 50% of the budget for the eID cards.

The Ministry of the Interior has budgeted NT$867.96 million for the cards. Members of the legislative committee are calling for the government to take further measures to ensure that it can be guaranteed that all information stored on the e-ID cards is 100% safe.
