Inbound FDI surpasses US$6 billion

Approved foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first nine months of 2020 has surpassed US$6 billion, according to a report by the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Investment Commission. According to the report, 2,575 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with a total value exceeding US$6.32 billion were approved from January to September 2020. This indicates a decrease of 4.74% in the number of cases, and a decrease of 19.77% in FDI amount compared to the same period of 2019.
In terms of Taiwan’s outbound investment (excluding Mainland China), 406 projects were registered from January to September 2020 for a total amount of US$6.7 billion, indicating a decrease of 15.42% in the number of cases, but an increase of 23.42% in the amount, as compared to the same period of 2019.
As for Taiwan’s outward investment to Mainland China, 352 applications have been approved from January to September 2020, indicating a decrease of 20.9% compared to the same period of 2019 and an approved investment amount of US$4.2 billion, 49% more than the same period in 2019.
