Judicial Yuan starts seminars for citizen judges

The Judicial Yuan has started seminars in preparation for a new jury system that involves ordinary citizens.

It comes after the Legislative Yuan passed the Citizen Judges Act in July to allow citizens to take part in judicial proceedings via a “joint trial, joint verdict” mechanism.

Judicial Yuan Secretary General Lin Hui-huang says for the mechanism to work, it is important that judges, prosecutors and lawyers understand this major change and prepare well for it.
