Taiwan has signed a new deal on organic foods with the US and Canada.

The Council of Agriculture says the agreement is for mutual recognition of each country's organic certifications for agricultural products. 30% of Taiwan's organic food imports already come from the United States.

Similar deals are in the works with India and Chile, and are being ratified in Paraguay and Peru.

Separately, Taiwan organic sesame powder is being exported to Japan for the first time.

The amount of farmland in Taiwan certified for organic produce is expected to hit 15 thousand hectares by the end of the year.
