Cabinet resigns en masse
Premier Su Tseng-chang led the cabinet to resign en masse earlier today ahead of President Tsai Ing-wen's 20 May inauguration.
Su, who has already been reappointed to Premier's position, will put together a new cabinet in the coming days.
With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, only a minor reshuffle of the cabinet is expected.
Science and Technology Minister Chen Liang-ji, who served as National Applied Research Laboratories director before becoming minister, says he has repeatedly told Su he wishes to return to academia.
National Development Council chair Chen Mei-ling also says that she won't stay on the job.
Local media have reported that former deputy Economics Minister Gong Ming-xin is most likely to take over Chen's position.
Culture Minister Zheng Li-jun is widely rumoured to step down as well.
The new cabinet will be sworn in on 20 May.
