The Ministry of Education is ready to allocate NT$100 million this year for developing international education at the elementary, junior high and high school level.

In its "K-12 International Education White Paper 2.0", the MOE says the budget will increase to NT$250 million from 2020 to 2025 with the aim of cultivating "responsible global citizens that respect multi-culture and have the ability to move across countries and participate in international affairs."

Education officials explain that the policy will strengthen "school-based international education projects" that not only offer more bilingual courses but encourage students to visit, study or do internships in other countries.

The MOE will also seek to expand exchange programmes so that more foreign students can come to Taiwan for schooling.

Officials say the goal is to expedite globalization of Taiwan's education so that students become more competitive on the world stage.
