The Taichung City Government is ordering improvements, after a gas explosion that left four dead and dozens injured last week.

The city says it has ordered Shin Kong Mitsukoshi department store to submit a safety improvement plan, twice posting notices on site.

Officials say the 13 February explosion damaged the building's exterior and structural systems, posing a serious public safety risk.

The city is requiring that the store hires certified engineers or architects to assess the damage and submit a safety plan. According to city regulations, the store must also install protective barriers, safety corridors, and other measures before beginning repairs.

City officials say the store has yet to provide the necessary documents, and it will be held legally responsible for any further risks.
