Legislators to attend Trump's inauguration
President Lai Ching-te today said that he hoped Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu and his cross-party delegation would be able to facilitate exchange between Taiwan and the US and strengthen bilateral ties. The delegation will attend the inauguration of US President-Elect Donald Trump next week.
Remarking on the shared democratic nature between the US and Taiwan, Han Kuo-Yu today drew a comparison to a four-legged table, saying that Taiwan's safety is dependent on protecting the ROC and democracy, preserving US-Taiwan relations, and preserving cross-strait peace.
The delegation of seven lawmakers attending the ceremony comprises members of the KMT, DPP, and TPP.
The inauguration is set to take place on 20 January and the legislative delegation will embark on their journey on Saturday and return on 23 January.
