MOENV expands carbon reporting requirements
The Ministry of Environment (MOENV) has announced a new carbon reduction plan, expanding emissions reporting to more businesses beyond the largest polluters.
Starting in 2026, companies in sectors like retail, universities, transportation, and hospitality must report their annual greenhouse gas emissions if they exceed ten-thousand metric tons of carbon dioxide or five-thousand tons at a single site.
Convenience store chains with over 100 locations and transportation operators with more than 200 vehicles are also included.
While reporting is mandatory, these businesses won't yet face carbon fees. The government will provide training and guidelines to help companies comply.
The plan complements Taiwan's upcoming carbon fee system targeting the biggest emitters, set to be paid in 2026.
