Winter wind energy to help reduce use of coal
Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) says wind power will help cut coal use this winter while keeping electricity stable.
The utility announced that wind energy is strong thanks to the northeast monsoon. This allows coal plants to scale back during the pollution season and gives room for maintenance on major power units.
The No. 2 reactor at the Third Nuclear Plant is set to restart in early December. Taipower says there will be enough power to meet peak demand, with reserves staying above 10% during the day and 7% at night.
Rainfall has improved hydropower, and pumped storage during the day will help meet night demand.
Coal plants like Taichung and Hsinta will lower output depending on air quality.
Taipower says these steps will ensure steady power for the month.
