Labour groups urge new MOL minister to introduce reforms
Labour groups are calling on new Ministry of Labor (MOL) Minister Hong Shen-han (洪申翰) to think outside the box and engage in policy reforms.
Hong took over the position after his predecessor Ho Pei-shan (何佩珊) stepped down last week due to an employee's suicide that's reportedly caused by workplace bullying.
Premier Cho Jong-tai said over the weekend that the new minister's top priority is to handle the aftermath of the suicide case.
The New Taipei Confederation of Trade Unions has expressed support for Hong's appointment but urges him to amend existing laws to improve Taiwan's work environment.
Meanwhile the KMT lawmakers have criticized Hong's appointment as "lacking legitimacy" given that his background is solely in environmental protection.
