MOFA monitoring Trump's appointments
13 November, 2024
Taiwan’s foreign ministry is keeping a close watch on US President-elect Donald Trump's cabinet picks.
Wang Liang-yu (王良玉), who oversees North American affairs, says Taiwan looks forward to maintaining strong ties with Washington. She declined to comment on potential appointees but reaffirmed efforts to engage bipartisan U.S. support.
Reports suggest Senator Marco Rubio, known for his Taiwan-friendly stance, might become Secretary of State. This follows Trump's decision not to reappoint pro-Taiwan figures like Mike Pompeo or Nikki Haley, both of whom visited Taiwan after public office.
