President Lai Ching-te has congratulated Donald Trump on his presidential election victory.

Lai is said to have issued the statement on behalf of the government and people of Taiwan and extended his congratulations to both Trump and his running mate JD Vance. Lai expressed a similar congratulatory message on his social media account in which added he's "confident that the longstanding Taiwan-US partnership will continue to serve as a cornerstone for regional stability and lead to greater prosperity for us all."

Presidential Office spokeswoman Karen Kuo said Taiwan "highly values the long-standing friendship" between the two sides and will continue to "work closely with the new U-S administration and Congress to bring about a new chapter in Taiwan-US relations." She went on to say that Taiwan "is willing to be the U-S' most trusted partner" and jointly strive for security and stability in the international community.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it instructed Taiwan's representative office in Washington to forward Lai's congratulatory letter to Trump.

The DPP, the KMT and the Taiwan People's Party have also issued statements congratulating Donald Trump on his election victory and are expressing their hope for closer US-Taiwan ties and regional peace during a second Trump term.

DPP spokeswoman Han Ying has congratulated Trump for winning the American people's support and the election and she expressed thanks to incumbent President Joe Biden's efforts to promote Taiwan-US relations - saying the links are solid as a rock "with bipartisan consensus in the US supporting Taiwan - a stance that will not change due to elections." The DPP spokeswoman also said her party looks forward to deepening the partnership across various fields.

KMT Chairman Eric Chu expressed his hope that Trump will continue the efforts from his previous term to mediate geopolitical conflicts and foster regional peace and stability. Chu said during Trump's first term, he advanced much pro-Taiwan legislation and supported Taiwan's self-defence efforts and the KMT will maintain its foreign policy of being "pro-US, friendly to Japan and on good terms with China."

Meanwhile, the Taiwan People's Party issued a statement congratulating Trump on his victory and said it looks forward to continuing its collaboration with the new administration to defend democracy and freedom. The TPP statement went on to say that Taiwan and the US are steadfast allies and long-term partners and the party is looking forward to Trump's leadership and hope that we can strengthen the US-Taiwan relationship and face global challenges together.
