The Water Resources Agency says surplus power generated by excess water released from a major reservoir has earned tens of millions in revenue.

The WRA says after three consecutive typhoons in the past three months, the Tseng-wen reservoir released over 600 million cubic meters of water in total, generating nearly 10 million kilowatt hours of electricity.

Officials say this surplus power was sold to Taipower, generating revenue of nearly NT$20 million. Tseng-wen Reservoir supplies water to the Chiayi and Tainan areas, primarily for irrigation purposes.

WRA data indicates that the reservoir is currently at full capacity, storing just over 500 million cubic meters of water.
