Premier Chuo Rong-tai has warned that the central budget impasse may halt a 3% pay raise for civil servants next year, as well as key defence projects.

The premier says that while the 3% pay raise for military personnel, civil servants, and teachers might wait, health services and international defence procurement are urgent and impact Taiwan's global credibility.

Defence Minister Wellington Koo added that the stalemate could delay funding for submarines, minelayer boats, drones, and new rifles.

Without approval, Taiwan's defence readiness could be affected, potentially raising questions about its commitment to self-defence.

Officials noted that if the budget passes soon, pay raises may still be issued before the Lunar New Year.
