A delegation of members of the European Parliament has arrived in Taiwan for a six-day visit.
The delegation is being led by European Parliament-Taiwan Friendship Group, Michael Gahler from Germany. It also includes members from France and the Czech Republic.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it's the first group from the European Parliament to visit Taiwan since the European Union's legislative branch held a round of elections in June. The foreign ministry says the delegation will be meeting with Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim and other top government officials.
The delegation will also meet with figures from NGOs and political parties to engage in discussions on issues such as Taiwan-EU economic ties and the geopolitical situation to explore opportunities for further cooperation.
This visit comes after the European Parliament last week adopted a resolution which addresses what it says is the misrepresentation of United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 by China and its continuous military provocations around Taiwan.
