The European Parliament has passed a resolution denouncing China's interpretation of United Nations Resolution 2758 which has been used to block Taiwan's participation in international organisations.

The brief, but strongly worded resolution was carried with a majority vote during Thursday's session in Strasbourg. The text outlines 20 points, including the recognition of Taiwan as a key partner to the European Union and a like-minded democratic friend in the Indo-Pacific region.

During parliamentary debate over the resolution, Nicolas Schmit, European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights underscored the EU's right to engage with Taiwan without contravening the EU's one China policy.
